The Poughkeepsie Journal: Spackenkill student wins ruling on posthumous workers’ compensation

Kanye Khalid Green is one step closer to receiving the workers compensation benefits he believes was owed to him after his father’s death.

Kanye and his mother, Linda Green, have been locked in a dispute with the Workers’ Compensation Board over 38.8 weeks of disability payments, the balance of 350 weeks originally owed to Eric Watson, who died in 2018.

The Spackenkill High School student who turned 16 on Wednesday planned to use the payments, roughly $19,000, to seed his college fund.

Following a recent ruling from the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division in Kanye’s favor, attorney Louis Dauerer said they are in position to request the case be brought back before a Workers’ Compensation Board law judge, who could potentially direct the Workers’ Compensation Board to make the payments.

Meanwhile, the board itself can either appeal the ruling or choose to begin making payments.
